The idea is that a dragon escaped from the zoo that this super-dedicated guy works at and he makes it his mission to bring that dragon back in time for the zoo’s weekend crowd.

Hello everyone. I figured there must be tons of these floating around, but I wanted to share a lot of good resources I use for learning art. I bookmark everything I find that could potentially strengthen my art, and I wanted to share with everyone tons of useful free information. Please send the creators of these posts/websites/whatevers a thank you if you use them! (Here is a reblog version).

http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=190982 - Almost my “go-to post”. Has 178 links on it as I type this. Conceptart.org is an all-around great website to lurk around for inspiration and information. They are way out of my league, so it feels strange to talk about the website as if I’m some kinda reg.

Really useful video/youtube channels I use—

http://www.ctrlpaint.com/ - Very very helpful for starting out with rendering in photoshop. The lessons are in manageable, short chunks, and in HQ. He also has some very nice lectures (I purchased 2 of them in one day) and they are very cheap by digital art lesson download standards.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Sycra - Has a lot of cool tutorials and demos. Also visit his website for a really good list of resources.

http://www.youtube.com/user/digitalbobert - Very good interviews, demos, and inspiration.

http://www.youtube.com/user/sinixdesign - Similar to Sycra. Has some really nice demos, and I think he still holds “community design challenges”.

http://www.youtube.com/user/FZDSCHOOL - Videos from the FZD School of design. A must visit. Very detailed lectures and demos.

http://www.youtube.com/user/idrawgirls - Tutorials. He also has lectures you can pay for on his website. My art-student wallet won’t allow me to test them, but I hear great things.

http://www.youtube.com/user/vilppustore - I only subscribed yesterday, but there are a lot of great traditional demos from what I have seen so far. This might be a good first stop— but take that with a grain of salt (I’m still a student!)

Chrisoatley.com - Chris is very enthusiastic about what he does, and I have found his podcasts and demos informative and helpful. He works at Disney and co-hosts the Paperwings podcast with Lora Innis, another extremely cool person I feel I have learned a lot from.

That’s pretty much everything I have on my bookmarks. Everything else is probably just links from one of the bigger lists of links I just posted.

I still have a long way to go before I should give out any kind of advice, but pretty much anyone I ask for advice that I consider to have a high amount of skill level in any visual art form (this includes comics, animation, illustrations) says that foundations (figure drawing, perspective, color theory, ect.) really strengthens any stylized work. I feel like if I have gotten better, it’s been from observing this stuff!

It wasn’t too long ago that I would fight studying any kind of realism, and just go straight to trying to draw anime-influenced art… but it’s hard to learn how to draw a stylized version of something, or caricature it if you have no idea how it works in real life!

So yeah, pass this around. The people in these links work extremely hard to bring everyone this content, so use it to your advantage!
